1937 Bacon "Sultana Grand"
This was the finest pre-war guitar put out by the famed Bacon Banjo Company of Groton, Conn. before Fred Bacon sold the company to Fred Gretsch about 1939.
This 18" rhythm and jazz guitar was their premier instrument and was featured on the 1937 catalog cover.
This spectacular 18" jumbo was made of curly maple with engraved pearl fingerboard inlays and gorgeous art deco peghead pearl inlays. The tuners are gold Klusons with genuine pearl buttons. The top of the guitar was bordered in colorful abalone inlay. Massive, engraved and gold-plated tailpiece.
Very, very few of these remarkable instruments were actually made, perhaps a half-dozen. Only one I've ever seen.
